- Your Apple TV stores your videos, library, and viewing progress.
- Video transfers go directly from your phone or computer to your Apple TV on your home network. They do not travel over the internet.
- Matinee sends titles derived from file names to TheTVDB to find artwork and episode details. It never sends your videos.
- No account is required, and there are no ads, analytics, or tracking. We do not receive, sell, or share your data.
Sending videos to your Apple TV
Matinee receives videos through a small web server on your Apple TV, accessible only on your local network. Open its page in a browser on your phone or computer, then pair the browser using the code or QR code on your TV. A session cookie keeps the browser paired. Videos transfer directly to your Apple TV and are never uploaded elsewhere.
What stays on your Apple TV
Matinee keeps your videos, library, viewing progress, and settings in its storage on your Apple TV. We receive none of this information.
If your Apple TV runs low on storage, tvOS may remove stored videos. Uninstalling Matinee deletes all its data, including videos.
Posters and episode details
To show posters and episode information, Matinee searches TheTVDB. Searches include details derived from the file name, such as the title, year, season, and episode number. Matinee downloads matching artwork from TheTVDB.
Matinee never sends video files to TheTVDB. The service receives each lookup request and your Apple TV’s IP address, which it handles under its own privacy policy.
No servers of our own
Matinee requires no account or sign-in and contains no analytics, advertising, or crash reporting code. It does not track you. We operate no server for Matinee and receive no data from the app.
Matinee Pro
Matinee Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Matinee checks your Pro purchase with the App Store on your Apple TV. We never receive your Apple ID or payment details.
Children
Matinee is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to this policy
Before releasing a change to our privacy practices, we will update this policy and its “Last updated” date.
